October. 2013.

"There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light."
-John 1:6-8

I want to take these verses and replace John's name with my own.
 [[confession: i have always liked being in the spotlight - but this is not about that]]
How desperately I want to be that person who is put on this earth to bear witness to the light. To be that testimony. It's a daunting idea. At least, to me it is. Yet, so entirely possible and I feel as though it would become slightly easier with Christ's strength.

I've been thinking about it.. and there really are many ways that I can bear witness to the light.

1. Through My Tongue:
::Speak charity toward others
::Absolutely no fowl language
::Refrain from gossiping

2. Through My Actions:
::Act with kindness toward others
::Be completely selfless. Be totally willing to die to myself, even when it's for something/someone I'm not fond of.
::Small acts of charity
::Smile. Even when it's hard.

3. Spreading God's Word:
::Be courageous - talk to people about Jesus
::Do NOT be shy about my Catholic Faith. Contrary to what others might think, it is the most beautiful part about me and my life.

Being this testimony is a lot like what St. Francis said, "Preach the Word of God.. and when necessary, use words."
How special it is that God gives each and every one of us this opportunity to bear witness to Him and His Word. Now, I'm very little. I'm also in the middle of a Nebraska. An extremely small part in the world and an EXTREMELY small spot in the whole universe. It's so incredible that Jesus can work through me even though I am so very little. Though... as small as I may be, I know for certain that God has given me a big heart. He has filled it with His great and overflowing love. I'm ready to share that love with everyone I encounter.
I want Jesus to look down at me and smile and say, "There was a woman sent by me whose name was Rachel. She came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through her. She was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light."
