Let's Start With a Story

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a garden.
In the garden was Man. There was also God. Now God and Man had a perfect relationship in the garden. Everything was perfect. But then Man sinned. And when that sin was committed, there was a rupture in the once perfect relationship between God and Man. Because of the sin in the garden, a void was created in that relationship and that void still exists today.
 The End.

Now let's switch gears here...
Everywhere all over the world, people desire to be happy. They desire a perfect happiness. Oftentimes, people try and measure their happiness and by success or fortune or relationships, etc. We see that happiness is being measured by very earthly things. We do that all the time. At least... I know that I do.
But if I were to ask you if you are perfectly happy.. would you be able to look me in the eyes and answer yes?
I seriously doubt it.
I'm sure that you can look into your life and find it full of very good and joyful things. That's fantastic. But do they make it you perfectly happy?

No. They don't.

Let's go back to the garden now. To the very beginning. Man was created with a space specifically for God. But then Man sinned...and now? That space that was meant for God? There's a void that isn't supposed to be there.  This is why we are all constantly searching for love and for perfect happiness. We are searching to fill that void. To fill that space that was ruptured when Adam and Eve sinned. We try to fill it so we can be perfectly happy. We try to fill it with all kinds of things. Fame. Success. Wealth. People. Relationships. Anything. We focus in on those things to make up for the lost happiness. But the joke's on us because, if you haven't already noticed, we don't get that perfect happiness when we try to close that gap with worldly things. We aren't able to feel perfectly loved or happy because that void is meant for God. That's HIS spot. And we pushed Him out.
We have to fill that space with God. It's time to throw everything else out and stay completely focused on Him. Because no matter how many times we tell ourselves that all the other things will give us happiness.. we'll always be wrong because only God can give us everlasting happiness and show us perfect unconditional love. That is the love we are all searching for to fill the void. We just don't always realize or remember that the love that's supposed to fill that spot, is the love that is from God who was there originally.

We need to put God back in His spot. When we nurture love for God, and not nurture love for self and worldly things... then that void closes. Because we are bringing life to God's love which then fills us with perfect happiness.

That might seem confusing.. but if you just sit and ponder that for a while.. you might just realize how beautiful it really is.
