I open the book...
I've read about so many adventures in books. There are all sorts. Dragon adventures. Mystery adventures. Suspense adventures. Ambitious adventures. And in ALL the great adventure books...whether it's The Hobbit or Nancy Drew or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn...the author is the one who makes the story happen. The author makes the decisions of his characters. Where they go. What the do. Who they are. Who they might become. The choices they make. Most of the time...the adventures end quite wonderfully.
And then I close the book and sit back and let out a happy sigh because it was SUCH a good adventure. I sorta want to go out and have one of my own.
************
But you know what's cool? My whole life is an adventure. And so is yours! You don't have to be a hobbit or dragon or elf or Indiana Jones to have an adventure of your own!!
This adventure is called...THE STORY OF YOUR LIFE.
Imagine your life as a book.
What would people read? They'd read about your journey in this crazy little thing we call life. They'd read about your choices and actions. They'd read all that.
That's why it's so important that we think about our story and what we are writing in it. We can't get away from it! What would we want people to read about us? We're writing our stories as we go about our lives every day. Every minute a new page is being filled. The pages are constantly turning. It's up to us what we fill those pages with.
How did we handle that difficult situation the other week?
Should we have made that one decision?
Did we do the right thing and stand up for that person who was being treated unfairly?
Were those thoughts we had just the other day really pleasing to God?
What would your book be filled with?
We all have messy parts of the story that are hard to erase. But that doesn't mean that the upcoming chapters and the ending can't be beautiful!
Do we want to have a book with pages full of regret? Sadness?
We want our stories to be inspiring to others. It's up to us to make our adventure a good read. It's about how we handled the pains and the joys. The greatest accomplishments. The short comings. How we served God and the other people around us. How we treated our blessings. How we spread hope and charity. How we shared our happiness. How we were there for others. How we rejoiced with those who were rejoicing. How we cried with those who were crying.
Our stories are worth telling.
No really. Think about it.
You'll be deciding how the rest of your story goes.
You're moving down the page.
You're on your way.
Where will you go now?
Who are you going to become?
What is your new chapter going to read?
